About
Vetter Lumber opened in 1934 as Vetter Lumber and Hardware by Cullen Vetter, called “CE. Vetter” by his family. It started as a “mom and pop” hardware and lumber yard located on St. Claude Avenue in what is now the 9th Ward of New Orleans. Back then, lumber deliveries were made with a mule and wagon, it was also a small town hardware store. In 1960, CE. Vetter passed the operation to his son, Robert Vetter, who ran the family business until the 1980’s. The family run business moved to Arabi in St. Bernard Parish in 1989, when it was turned over to Gary and Brian Vetter. We have proudly served that community, as well as the surrounding metro area for generations. After the devastation of St. Bernard Parish by hurricane Katrina in 2005, Vetter Lumber was the first business back in the parish. We returned after only 7 weeks to help the people of the parish rebuild their lives. We were the first business to open and begin helping people rebuild their lives. However, we didn’t just return to run a business, but to let people know that God is alive and he cared about their loss. It has been a blessing for my family to serve this parish, and the surrounding parishes for generations.
